Bursas are fluid-filled sacks that sit between bones, tendons or ligaments when they come into contact with one another, preventing rubbing. Bursitis is the condition of inflammation of these bursitides and is usually caused by excessive tension or overuse of a particular joint, or by an accident such as a fall or car accident.
