Bursitis

Bursitis

Bursas are fluid-filled sacks that sit between bones, tendons or ligaments when they come into contact with one another, preventing rubbing. Bursitis is the condition of inflammation of these bursas, and is usually caused by excessive tension or overuse of a particular joint, or by an accident such as a fall or car accident.

The joints most commonly affected include:

  • shoulder
  • knee
  • hip
  • elbow
  • wrist
  • ankle

In carefully evaluating the structure of, and relieving the pressure caused by, any aggravating joints, an osteopath may help to reduce inflammation and kick-start the healing process.
